That's the funniest thing I've read all week.

Gelhardt is in the current conversation solely because we are struggling. Along with BA, he's a Championship level player. Much of a muchness really. If pushed, I'd stick with BA.

I assume that we are wage subsidising this season so I doubt it.

Great news if they do though as it will add to the kitty.

Highly doubtful and not particularly relevant to #lufc either way, apart from his PSR value.
November 14, 2025 at 12:16 PM
It's supposedly a season long loan so there may be no option to do that.
November 14, 2025 at 12:08 PM
Exceptions that prove the rule.

Much more likely is that after 3 seasons in the Championship he's finally hit a decent run of goalscoring form.

He's been around for long enough now to know that he doesn't have the attributes to succeed at a higher level.
November 14, 2025 at 11:38 AM
That would be the ideal solution, given the lack of interest from clubs with money to spend in the summer just gone.
November 14, 2025 at 11:29 AM
He wouldn't be in the match day squad. That's why he's out on loan, playing in the Championship.

If we are relegated, he'd be an option for the new manager to consider next season.

Do people still post stuff like this on FB to signal that they don't like non-white people?
November 14, 2025 at 10:27 AM
You might but multiple #lufc (and Sunderland) managers who got to work with him close- up, day in day out, in recent seasons, didn't/don't.

The lack of suitors (for a fee) in the summer tells the tale.
November 14, 2025 at 8:59 AM
We have the Championship's 2024/25 top scorer in our squad. The lad scored 73 Championship goals in 181 games.

All the recent evidence is that prolific Championship goalscorers don't score goals in the Premier League.

But hey, feel free to think that Gelhardt would be the exception to the rule.
November 14, 2025 at 7:59 AM
Much easier to score goals in the Championship than in the Premier League.

The top 3 Championship goalscorers in 2023/24 (combined 67 goals) managed 7 goals between them in the PL the following season.

Fair comment but S1 was so good.
Try High Potential as a replacement if you haven't seen it yet.
November 13, 2025 at 8:01 PM
Season 1 was must watch TV but I thought the quality fell off a cliff in S2.
November 13, 2025 at 7:49 PM
I tend not to look too far ahead. Things can change very quickly in this division.

But the goals have to come from somewhere, like you say. They are unlikely to come, in the required numbers, from a lame forward line with 3 defensive midfielders behind them.
November 13, 2025 at 1:33 PM
Is he still expecting Calvert-Lewin to score the goals that will keep us up?

I'm not a long ball proponent (it rarely works at this level, particularly against the better teams) but we do need to be a lot more progressive with the ball and press the opposition much more than we have.

Great sports coverage (radio, pods), 6 Music and occasional TV series.

If only they could sort out or at least reduce the incessantly negative/divisive news content.
November 12, 2025 at 4:27 PM
No manager ever does. And one of the reasons he will be out the door sooner rather than later is his reference to it at every press conference which is likely to alienate the owners and players alike.
November 12, 2025 at 7:14 AM
1.5 seasons managing a team at the foot of the table should have been excellent prep for this season.

Particularly with what is widely recognised as a stronger squad.

E.g. the need to be flexible with the team set up and approach based on the opponent.

I'd argue that he's learned very little.
