I’ve been looking at this Tierilä’s work Pelastuneet (the saved) in the Researcher’s Room of the Library of Finnish Parliament for an year now and it is an accurate depiction of what the final stages of PhD looks like. Also proof the library staff has wicked sense of humour 😂 #PhDSky #AcademicSky

I think it's panicing

I rememeber the claims that #AI will replace a number of professions, including historians, illustrators and proofreaders. Somehow I am not too worried. This is based on an actual chart... #PhDSky #AcademicSky

Absolutely cackling at this Google Gemini's dramatic analysis on my SNA centrality data. I mean, he only went for a bit of holiday? #SocialNetworks #AI

And the vinyl, obviously bright red…

One of the most interesting archive records I’ve catalogued, the Red Lantern vinyl single in Kenneth Cantlie Archive. Main protagonist, of course, a railway worker delivering secret messages during war 👀🚂

Could anyone shed a light on the origins and meaning of phrase "wropt in mystry"? Obviously literal meaning is something is unknown. I come across it often in early 20th c. writings, always in quotation marks. Is it a Scottish/ Shakespeare/ Dickens thing? #PhDSky #AcademicSky

Recently discovered that my research subject Kenneth Cantlie, Technical Adviser to the Nationalist govt in the 1930s, was behind this quote in Brian Crozier’s book ”The Man Who Lost China” on Chiang Kai-shek and I am howling

Nanjing, China, 1936. In the middle of a 16 page letter of foreign adviser Kenneth Cantlie complaining about his contract, pay, kids being poorly and wife wanting to quit China asap there is this little Russian Embassy daytime drinking gem 👀 🥂

Just presented my research on Finnish colonialism & photography at the Finnish photo archive conference. The best feedback came from the Samí history museum Siida curator saying she didn’t feel the need to correct any part of the 30 min talk ❤️

This is from the invigilation desk at the National Railway Museum’s library & archive, my old job. Apparently this is how the new team members recognise I’m okay to let through to the search room behind it 😂 #histsci

It’s that time of the year again when my phone’s photo reel looks like this thanks to a productive day @ SOAS Library Special Collections. Amazing to still find records of long-gone British Boxer Indemnity and London Purchasing Commissions & good data for social network analysis 🚂 #histsci

Thought it would be a fitting 1st post to showcase the magnificient Finnish National Library and what I’m doing there: practicing my social network analysis skills. So far I’ve been able to demostrate that the person I’m researching indeed was a member of the two orgs I thought he would be 👍🙈
