At an event last year, a visitor suggested that this ring on a brick might in fact be an #apotropaic mark. It’s on an early c19th stable, adjacent to a door. Or could it just be a builder’s/mason’s mark or remnant of a Ministry tradesman testing a new drill? #boscobel

Hi @mrjamesob.bsky.social this might be of interest, in light of current events and your discussion today. I’d recommend looking closely in to the prospect of fellow European JEF members and Canada coming to Greenland’s aid
This is a really useful video that analyses the relative military capabilities of the US and European nations in Arctic conditions. Some very surprising statistics. Why the US may be over confident in its abilities #Greenland #JEF #Arctic #Nordic youtu.be/8hdthsG8tks?...

@mrjamesob.bsky.social the UK leads a military coalition called the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF), nations who face the Arctic, North Sea and Baltic. The troops are Arctic specialists. Maybe now would be a good time to initiate a “training exercise” on Greenland jefnations.org

Yesterday, I met up with my EH work colleagues, both staff and volunteers for a walk around the #Staffordshire village of #Brewood, close to #Boscobel. We started at St Mary’s catholic church, which has a fascinating history

All the kneeling, working in dark corners, laying under tables inspecting woodwork damage etc is worth it for the view at dusk #heritage #conservation #boscobel #shropshire

And of course, there’s acres of wainscot panelling and 19th century frieze that needs close brush work. Initially you don’t think it makes a difference but you notice it when it’s all finished #heritage #conservation #boscobel #shropshire

It’s conservation week at work, a deep clean of the house, furniture and other collection items. This year I’ve had the pleasure to work on some of the smaller items, ceramic, metal, glass and paper #heritage #conservation #boscobel #shropshire
