Best read in the voice of Rick, The People's Poet

Delighted to report that Keith is back on form with this important poem about ID Cards, and if I’m very much mistaken*, it’s to the tune of Stop by The Spice Girls.

YOUR POEMS
ID Card
by Keith J Furnival
STOP, ID card, where are you going, where have you been?
This photograph doesn't look like you, get it changed.
You are being reported, you will lose credits.
STOP, ID card, you can't buy that, cholesterol count too high, government warning.
Please do not ask why, rules are rules.
Do not question, just comply.
STOP, ID card.
this vehicle is out of zone, didn't you read today's app.
There will be a fine, credits will be deducted, your travel will be restricted.
Are you a nonconformist?
We will rectify that.
STOP, ID card, stay home and comply.
No need to go out, your card is your everything.
All will be delivered, the state will provide.
You will submit, we are watching you.

STOP, ID card.

My secondary school had a narrow climbing wall that was never used during my entire time there. I assume the school was upsold it while buying equipment they were actually likely to use. The boys were also not allowed to use the javelins for what I think are quite prejudiced reasons

The Truss budget broke many of them. Before that, you couldn't turn on the news without some talking head from the IEA lecturing us about the need to privatise the NHS, etc. Truss left them in ruins

There'll keep going with it. Journalists are going to be in the group most affected. Solid, middle class professionals but not wealthy enough to absorb the VAT hit. It's a personal obsession rather than a relevant news story

If his aim is still the same as it was when he played for Newcastle, then I can be pretty certain he missed the target

Good to see Thiaw's form getting noticed. He looks to be an exceptional player and transformative for us to have someone who can run at CB

I think the point when the members didn't put James Cleverly into the final round of the leadership election was a sliding doors moment for the party. It left no sane, competent option on the ballot

Again, I want this read in the style of Mrs Doyle naming priests

Reform announcing a series of Tory councillor defections as Kemi Badenoch begins her broadcast round. A sort of Rolling Chunder.

I think it's always worth reminding ourselves that half the US voted against this. He doesn't have overwhelming support. The problem right now is that the opposition is disorganised, weak and can't mobilise people effectively. Maybe they'll get their act together at some point

I can't think of anyone who could have done a better job with the available resources. You do sometimes think what he could have achieved with, say, Man Utd's ability to spend on fees and wages

This just went on the long list of things I loved as a kid that my son thinks is boring. It also includes Raiders of the Lost Ark. I was pleased when The Goonies got his seal of approval

This sounds fine. Great, even.

‘The hundreds of billions of dollars companies are investing in AI now account for an astonishing 40 per cent share of US GDP growth this year… Outside of the AI plays, even European stock markets have been outperforming the US this decade’

America is now one big bet on AI
It’s seen as the magic fix for every threat to the US economy

I think this has been apparent for at least a couple of years now. A stricter immigration regime will not satisfy far-right demands. How can it? They want a homogenous culture. That isn't achieved just by limiting future immigration

It really is. Goalies have a pretty fascinating psychology anyway, but the third choice 'keeper lives in a very strange footballing hinterland

It's pretty standard but some get even more. The Athletic once did an article on goalkeepers who never play

They've been getting us to carry out basic counselling functions for years now, why not add a little HR into the mix?

On the men's side, football and the US money sports hoover up all the best basic athletes. Burnley's 3rd choice 'keeper will earn £10k per week. There's probably less than 20 track athletes in the world that earn that

Catching up on MOTD2 and Joe Hart is making me very conscious of the way I sit. The man has intimidatingly good posture

Succession. Looked boring as hell. I spend enough time in meetings in real life

Inspired by a post I just saw in which someone admitted they hadn’t seen a single episode of Friends nor the film Love Actually… what cultural hole do you have that’s a bit weird for your generation?

I’ll go first: I haven’t seen Dirty Dancing.

Reform continue to find out that running a council is basically social care, a bit of money for bins, and that's it
