Hell you can even be funny about it like Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon was by saying "Neon Bows are stealthy because everything in the future is Neon." or Portal when they announced the multiverse which is just Apperture trying to save money by scamming other universes and making players build levels.

In the end it really irritates me that so many sci-fi settings focus on not explaining a lot about their settings anymore. I know it's "Science Fiction" but that's why shit like Killzone, Halo and Starship Troopers worked so well, since they still tried to explain why things are like that.

Funny thing is, that game has nukes. Only problem is the moment you use them at the wrong time you can get fucked over pretty heavilly since the enemy has more of them and they have more ships they can deploy.
Like the general says "Once the genie Is out of the bottle, we can't put it back in."

Like airplanes in that game can become really busted if you have a lot of bombs and rockets available (who would've guessed), but at the same time so can be the sevastopol with 35392t weight since it has like a fuckton of autocannons and artillery cannons strapped to it.

Highfleet also does something simillar with how both fighter jets and planes still exist next to those 30 kt bricks with rocket engines strapped to them they call "airships" and making both important and viable by showing how much of their wolrd is just empty dessert and mountains.

Also Helldivers making it astronomically clear that just because we're in a sci-fi future, doesn't mean that Bullets and Artillery shells will ever become obsolete just because we can have plasma and laser weapons.

Also reminds me of how DRG explains why they are still using dwarves for their mining expeditions despite having all those advanced robots and machinery simply by making one of the special enemies be an old DRG combat robot being controlled by alien plant life.

Like the whole point of the Helghasts gettup (if I recall correctly) was because Helghan was not really suited for settling on it due to the gravity and poor air quality.
Hence why they all wear those gasmasks and goggles.

Sure this whole "Let's make everything look metallic, bright and clean" can work if the setting works with that visual. But things like Killzone or Starship troopers worked well without it aswell simply because they made the setting futuristic in other ways.

Also worth mentioning that a lot of Sci-Fi media goes in the direction of "Let's make our setting look super advanced by adding a whole bunch of metal shit and lights to it, that makes it look futuristic!" when all they need to do is reread what Sci-Fi stands for.
Science fiction.
