I unironically believe that by imagining the future we want, we increase the chance it happens. Not in some nonsensical New Age way, but because conceptualising a path means people start considering it as a possibility to aim for. So I will always manifest our victory, our vengeance, our destiny.

It is interesting that the fascist regime currently in place did not arise from the traditional factors that lead to such regimes (such as national humiliation and economic disaster), but that it is actively producing those factors, which will lead to the rise of the next administration.

Coming into adulthood around the pandemic, I had this half-formed idea of 'iitotal peace', where you do a total war footing for peacetime goals

Confronting disease? Total commitment. Confronting climate change? Total commitment. Building infrastructure in the Congo? Total commitment, nothing less.

Reading the Three Body Problem and some other web science fiction in my formative teenage years honestly did a number on me; it gave me this condition where total war or any kind of total societal commitment to an ambitious goal is really emotionally resonant to me

I'm sceptical of some of those who seem to think that all that needs to be done to fix everything in the US is to do the right structural reform. Nonpartisan redistricting. Abolishing the electoral college. Proportional representation. These are all good, but you have to reckon with the culture.

This is why we need to establish youth groups (but woke and liberal) in order to correctly socialise the next generation and direct the energising and rejuvenating potential of youth towards the goal of national palingenesis (but woke and liberal)

Something I've really come around to in the last year is that there is no magic institutional guardrail in an established democracy that is sufficient to prevent the rise of fascism. It's all ultimately dependent on the virtue of the citizenry and the political culture

Sorry Will but speeding is a human right and this is actually discrimination against people in northern and southern latitudes given that people in Florida travel much faster by virtue of being closer to the equator when the Earth spins on its axis
