Most people don't know what Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration actually means in practice, how it should work, and why it's a specialized domain of research and practice.

If you wrote a good overview to inform the discussion it could be very valuable right now.

and to put an 'aha i'm tricking you, reader, i, this critic, actually love paradox games' right before the paywall is more grist for the oh fuck off mill.

that said, reading people who read the whole thing, he seems to dismiss HoI4 as the node because he didn't like it as a game.

re-read, oops. "It’s not as if I will have a lack of material to work with—not when the company’s most popular title is a World War II simulator that lets you literally play as Hitler."

anyway, he's still dismissing it lol.

i was mistaken on first skim, he mentioned it, but not by name and not central to his thesis lol

hit paywall without mention of HoI4, which maybe there's a case, not from the company so much as a certain segment of players. CK2 and 3 isn't turning people fash.

guess if they tried to rip off coachella/bonnaro font sizes for big acts/mid acts etc it'd start some hilarious fights.

full disclosure, as someone who was an adult during those times, i still take a dim view of the first gulf war, and not in the mood to debate it too much at the moment, but i don't call the highway of death a war crime anymore (sigh, yes, anymore, people can learn things).

it's an artifact of sort of pre-internet zine culture. any mobilization of the left had pamphlets with ramsey clark bullet points etc. the highway of death was a big sort of shibboleth for various antiwar groups in the '90s and stuck somewhat.
