It really reads like a project Loeb wanted to do back in the early 2000s, but couldn't and he never bothered updating it for 2025.

Legit read the first 3 segments (jlu 1 prelude, and 158 and 159) and it was fine but just there.

The youngblood cast. Miracle man had a lot of stops and starts, but the liefeldian characters have the worst luck I've seen for any comic. It's like swerving into a flammable truck

There's just some writers that feel like they're better suited for one over the other.

I think it's always funny how people will put it in iconic batman stories list, but no one has actually read it. Like atleast with hush, you get so many moments that stand out to a new reader/ casual reader. All I knew was jason got blown up

They're complete packages. It's why a lot of mark millar stuff sells even if he's hated. Also the same reason leob batman stuff is constantly reprinted. Also the art is probably those artists at their peak

Now I just need to read ultimate X-men since I couldn't pick it up as it came out since it always sold out

Yeah, it's a good book but imo, Ultimates is the stand out title of the line even if the art isn't on the same level

I think what also doesn't help is the book was marketed as "here's a peter parker with wife and kids" but during the first 12 issues, you rarely get that interacting or meaningful moments aside from like 1 or 2 with each member separately 2/2

I've made jokes with friends that if you were to hypothetically remove peter from the book, the main plot would still happen. I think it's very telling in universe, spider-man isn't referenced at all during one year in. 1/2

Also didn't help they guy who bought it at hasbro died and his replacement didn't care for it.

It's really funny seeing the discourse of the mcu fans acting like scarlet witch was nothing before the films, like she wasn't in cartoons and used prominently in the comics.

I'm with you on that. They look cool, but there's no real way to show them unless you buy 2 copies. Posters work way better imo
