I found the personal statement of our former chief minister published in today’s Press disingenuous and vaguely insulting to the intelligence of islanders.

Sixty two years ago today my father died aged 45. I would love to have been able to get to know him as an adult, so many unasked questions

‘English cricket remains a metaphor for the country at large: hollowed out and stripped down, a place of VIP queues and boarded-up high streets, pristine public school fields and “no ball games” signs on housing estates.’

As Brendon McCullum and Rob Key limp on, perhaps it is worth retracing the steps that brought us here

As somebody who already uses a combination of solar panels and battery storage I can confirm first hand the economic benefits to say nothing to its impact on my carbon footprint. Yes it was expensive to install but my return on capital invested greatly exceeds the returns of cash in the bank.

I do feel a degree of sympathy for Starmer and other world leaders, dealing with an irrational and petulant Trump must be tiring to say nothing of annoying and frustrating

A thought occurred to me is Trumps “attack” on Greenland a device to deflect the worlds attention away from what ICE is doing domestically
January 19, 2026 at 9:18 AM
The way he is going soon Trump will only have two friends and allies and that will be Putin and Farage, I find it hard to understand why he still has support in America

Perhaps Reform should be renamed Refuge (for failed tories)

If Trump invades Greenland perhaps we should confiscate his UK golf courses

If Trump is considering “buying” Greenland ad reported by BBC that implies there is an owner capable of selling. If there is an owner it follows to take it without consent is theft. Not rocket science

Not all investments pay off but our solar array and battery storage means that despite the localised power outage we still have all electrical devices working, the battery suggests we can be self sufficient for another 18 hours.

If one fails to condemn Trump for his illegal act in Venezuela do you forfeit the right to condemn Putin or Netanyahu for their acts in Gaza and Ukraine. You may argue a difference in scale but legality is an absolute concept

I think the latest price rise may be the straw that breaks the camel’s back and after 50 plus years I may cancel the Guernsey Press

Why do TV companies think that regurgitating mediocre programs and populating them with third rate “celebrities “ most of whom I haven’t heard of is suitable festive entertainment

Let’s hope this freakish win on a substandard pitch isn’t used to perpetuate BazBall and keep Crawley in the team!!

Interesting piece in The Press by Richard Graham while I understand why in some cases he doesn’t name names I wish he would/could

McCullum says not having practice matches was a mistake, but what about picking the wrong team, being tactically naive or crossing the line between aggression and recklessness were they also mistakes

I know it is early this year but the Christmas tree is going up today!!

Dare I suggest our top players should play in the County Championship and not franchise cricket to relearn the basics, innings are built of partnerships, Test cricket is a five day game, batsmen should defend the good ball and punish the bad and there is no shame in a draw.

Having read the article in the Press today I fundamentally disagree with Deputy Goy. Deputies are elected to take decisions and responsibility the only time they should abstain is if there is a conflict of interest
December 17, 2025 at 12:36 PM
Can anybody explain the BBC’s fascination with grotesque men dress as women
December 16, 2025 at 9:33 AM
Reading today’s Press it would appear that cannabis usage is causes a crisis in the mental health services on island yet at the same time some deputies are calling for its legalisation. Could I suggest legalisation may exacerbate the situation and perhaps legalisation is not a sensible course

I went through the fixtures list with my daughter and due to little cricket being played in July and none in August my grandsons who love cricket are unable to attend a match in 2026, surely it is important for the future of the game that youngsters are able and encouraged to attend

Putting things into context £200k for a by-election is a bargain compared to spending £42 million on IT systems that only made things worse or didn’t work at all

Despite the weather the turnout for the National Trust’s Christmas Market yesterday was amazing huge thank you to all those who made the effort, it had a wonderful atmosphere! thanks should also go to all the stall holders without them there would be no market
