I am desperately clinging to my 12-year-old discontinued IKEA chairs, but now one of them has lost two screws that I can't find. Here's hoping the IKEA spare parts replacement comes through even with the furniture itself is discontinued. 🤞 I really don't want to have to buy regular chairs.

I actually remembered to read another letter in #Clarissa, where we see Lovelace and Morden go 'oh no, you choose, after you' about which weapons they would duel with. Leave it to Lovelace to somehow make the lead-up to a duel whiny and almost boring. ✉️

I know I am late posting, but rereading Age of Innocence has been so interesting. When I first read this as a teen I really wanted Archer and Ellen to run off together. Now, this line (in Archer's thoughts about Ellen) really convinces me that if they had, it would have been a terrible mistake. 🏹

I do feel bad for Mrs. Beaufort, especially since she probably had nothing to do with her husband's business ventures, but "[your name] was Beaufort when he covered you with jewels, and it's got to stay Beaufort now that he's covered you with shame" is *such* a great dramatic line. 🏹

I like that my car insurance co lets me just access my proof of insurance through an app instead of those little cards I always lose. But I just got an e-mail that the app will be unavailable for maintenance from Thursday through Saturday. Cool timing, nobody will be driving more than usual then!

Caught up on yesterday’s Age of Innocence reading and I wonder, does Newland ever see a play/opera/whatever he hasn’t already seen several times? I guess it’s another example of the constricted nature of NY society. 🏹

Semi-outsider Ellen is the one who clocks that the up side of all the weird rules of New York society is that they can make you "feel cared for and safe" and that she wants that sense of safety, while Newland, born to the rules, is the one chafing at them a bit. 🏹

Newland has these shockingly feminist thoughts - women should be as free as men are, there's no honest reason women shouldn't be allowed to have sexual experiences before marriage - but also is aware that he says this because he knows no nice women would exercise those freedoms. 🏹

I thought that during this reread of Age of Innocence I'd try to pay attention to Larry Lefferts since I saw a play adaptation last spring where a reviewer was annoyed that this character was played as if gay. So far he is introduced as an authority on shoes so I don't get the critic's upset. 🏹

I really enjoy how funny The Age of Innocence is when pointing out the million hypocricies. I particularly liked Newland "was glad that his future wife should not be restrained by false prudery from being kind (in private) to her unhappy cousin" but not in public, egads! 🏹 #InnocenceReads

my sole history with the Alien franchise is that one scary part of The Great Movie Ride at Disney MGM. And I will say that the random sparks flying as we go down the hallway in Alien Earth has effectively brought that feeling back to me. Surprise nostalgia!
