Or when someone pretends in public that they don’t know anything to comment on the progressively horrifying actions and behaviors of a “friend” because they “haven’t seen it”, or “don’t know about it” and somehow they conveniently stopped being friends with them at the same time — “unrelatedly tho”.

The point after the beginning is quite slow, I agree… I also paused there, but I picked it up later.
It’s an extremely casual slice of life story that culminates slowly with Mae’s day-to-day.
At the halfway point, there is an abrupt and noticeable change, and the ending snowballs from there. :)
