Some of this stuff is pretty funny. Anyway, language is a living, constantly evolving thing. Our grammar norms and definitions (being so terribly violated now) have all arrived from peculiar origins. The word GOODBYE, comes from one guy once writing an abbreviation for God Be Wit Ye.

I do a similar thing. Also for the birthday. But I usually wait until the date is about a month out. Post-occasion purchases to get what no one got me are a recuperative joy.
