They need to be careful or ppl are gonna start thinking they can have an individual relationship with God…. (And we all know that’s the last thing the church wants)

Go stand on the steps of the Capitol and yell about it until someone listens. Or something, anything. C’mon. You gotta have more than a post in your back pocket. Otherwise, this government/country was an imagined sham this whole time. It never worked.

I know it’s already a pretty short book but I finished it in just a couple of days, I couldn’t put it down. When most media these days hands you everything on a silver platter, this was such a nice opposite (even tho I know it was written like, 30 years ago)

Obviously we all deal with death and loss so it makes sense but we don’t all need to approach from an inspirational/self-help/personal narrative standpoint. Like say something different or say it in a different way.

Also how many memoirs on grief/loss can be written. Seems like 80% of them are that. Maybe it’s because I lost most of the adults in my life by the time I was 20, but in my experience those books are often like “duh” or “this could’ve been a therapy session”

Honestly I think the proliferation of every famous person writing a memoir (NOT even autobiography) has largely made me hold this opinion. I have very much enjoyed memoir before, but I find it to be the least interesting literary genre, at least in present day.

Now nonfiction with some personal narrative can be very affective (think: Killers of the Flower Moon), but there is a distinct difference between that and memoir

In many cases a memoir could’ve been a piece of fiction influenced by real life experience or on a topic that can stand on its own as nonfiction and doesn’t require (much) personal narrative. In many cases (NOT ALL) memoir screams “I was too lazy to use my imagination OR do additional research.”
