We believe lemurs can be saved from extinction if we all work together. Visit our website at lemurconservationnetwork.org to learn about lemurs, celebrate the World Lemur Festival, and find out how you can help. Celebrate World Lemur Day on Oct 31, 2025!
Caught mid-air! These two photos show Coquerel’s sifakas doing what they do best—leaping. Unlike other lemurs, they move through the trees by sitting upright and springing from branch to branch using the powerful strength of their back legs. Talk about leg day.

Those big eyes might steal the show, but this is the small-toothed sportive lemur named for what you can’t see! They lack permanent incisors and have smaller molars than other sportive lemurs. #FunFactFriday

Indris are the only lemurs that communicate by song. Their powerful, melodic calls rise and fall, echoing for miles to keep group members connected, warn neighbors to stay back, and even share details about who’s in the group. What else might their music be saying?

Pretty in pink (and black)! 🩷 🖤

This silky sifaka is rocking a one-of-a-kind look. While all silky sifaka infants are born with black skin, they lose pigmentation as they age—resulting in faces that can be pink, black, or a beautiful mix of both. No two faces are exactly alike!

Is there anything as cute as a couple lemurs getting cozy?! Ring-tailed lemurs live in social groups that range from three to twenty five individuals! #SundaysAreForSnuggles

Fork-marked lemurs and African needle-clawed galagos are a classic case of convergent evolution—they’re both small, nocturnal, primates with strikingly similar looks and lifestyles. The twist? They live about 3,000 miles apart and aren’t closely related

Tongue Out Tuesday! 🌿

When your lunch is mostly leaves, you need some serious mouth power. This indri is caught mid-munch high in the trees, tongue out and working overtime to tackle a leafy meal.

This mom and baby Verreaux’s sifaka are serving peak cuddle goals. Sifaka moms invest a lot in their babies—timing births to when conditions are just right and balancing the energy it takes to raise a youngster in Madagascar’s unpredictable environment.

#FunFactFriday !

Born at the start of the wet season, red-bellied lemur infants spend their first weeks clinging tight to mom—then take their first wobbly steps around week five. Both mom and dad carry the baby (though dads do most of the hauling as the little ones grow).

Sunday Sifaka Spotlight!

Diademed sifakas are the ultimate planners—traveling up to half a mile a day when juicy fruits are in season, then slowing things down in drier months when leafy meals are close by.

Sunday snack time! This northern bamboo lemur is living its best life with a fresh bamboo buffet. These tiny daytime dynamos are the smallest diurnal lemurs—but they don’t stick to a schedule! Researchers have spotted them chatting and snacking after dark too.
