". . . without government policy also reducing the ability of property speculators to outbid homeowners . . . the problem will take much longer to solve," writes Australia Institute Chief Economist Greg Jericho in The Point.

I'm saddened to hear the 'poor door' being used in Aust. housing projects that claim to include Affordable Housing in their developments. Wollies needs and moral shaking wake up.

Let's remember though, Australia is currently expanding fossil fuels, with 94 new coal and gas projects in the pipeline. Still a long way to go

Finding the shenanigans of the Liberal and National parties intriguing as they battle out their differences to remain a Coalition. Our 2-party system is in demise, and I'm a fan.

The housing market just got more cooked
The federal government’s policy enabling five per cent house deposits is just a backdoor first homebuyer’s grant that’ll pump up prices.

hmmm, something for Jim's Reform Roundtable?
This is very bad news - the ABS won't be releasing its Survey of Income and Housing.

This is the survey that gives us the best detail on inequality of both wealth and income and it means we won't get one till 2027.

The last one was in 2019-20 so it's already 5 years out of date

At 46, I've still got HECS to pay off. Education should be free and paid for by the government.
Ahead of next week, remember budgets are all about choices.

Right now the govt is choosing to have people on HECS/HELP pay 4 times more than gas companies do on PRRT. @jack-thrower.bsky.social has the numbers #OffTheCharts

On so many levels these industries, as they are, are so wrong for Australia
“We have political leaders who insist that mining & forestry underwrite Australian prosperity. Those who believe this nonsense cannot be trusted with the wellbeing of future generations.”

“Mining & native forest logging industries, collectively, employ only ~2% of the labour force."
