yeah that’s a good point, I guess I’m just looking at this with more of a big hall perspective and with more emphasis on the fame side than on the stats side. At the same time I think advanced stats are definitely the best way to get players in that may have been overlooked during their playing days

not criticizing your picks at all btw just trying to elaborate my thoughts a bit, I appreciate the work you do and I personally feel like the HOF has enshrined players that wouldn’t have gotten in if not for your writing

and same can be said for the examples you gave such as mattingly and murphy, like obviously from a numerical standpoint they fell short but in overall history of the game their contributions were notable, especially considering both were voted mvp by the same bbwaa that vote for the HOF

perspective because for example if you were to ask me in the mid 2000s who the top 3rd baseman was Wright would’ve come to mind over someone like Scott Rolen but due to his career not lasting due to injuries he doesn’t have the overall numbers to go with it

I get it, it’s odd because obviously support for them comes from a different angle than support for other type of candidates (may I add that I am quite a fan of the JAWs system) but I feel like support for them comes from the “fame” perspective of the hall of fame from a “story of the game” (cont)
