So reading between the lines on a lot of statements from councilors today I get the sense they want the City Manager to take the blame here and step down.

the way things are reported in this thread it seems like the Justices aren't too hot on his work here either.

Which to an extent I think is fair, their break times are often only a half hour to eat. Most office workers these days get a 45-1 hour long lunch in order to leave the office to obtain food etc. So I think its a fair question to put to staff.

Deferred to next week while they ask leadership if they may need longer breaks to obtain a lunch if they're going out to purchase one.

When you've got a mayor where the most significant moments from her mayoralty are when wind blew her down a set of stairs, and when we found out she owned a dilapidated building being lived in by an ex-partner that she now wishes to tear down. Its just untenable.

At this point, I would put money on Horwath getting absolutely demolished in the coming election. Its just one embarrassment after another with her and I don't think she has any goodwill left with just about any political faction in this city.

If she was surprised then why didn't she pull it back on Friday?! It wouldn't involve throwing any staff under the bus, you just say no this doesn't fit and we won't be going forward with this.

Embarrassing mayor does something incredibly embarrassing. What else is new.

Yes the Municipal Land Transfer Tax generates over a billion in revenue for Toronto each year. If Hamilton could have even a fraction of that generated outside of property taxes we would have much lower yearly increases inline with what Toronto does.

I don't know how I'm possibly going to survive with evil Cameron Kroetsch dipping his hands in my pocket for that much cash! 😆

I'm sure the municipality of Hamilton would also love to have their own land transfer tax as it would probably significantly decrease the property tax increases YoY. But I already calculated out this years increase on the house I just bought and it increases my burden by a whopping $8.87 a month.

When I buy a house in Toronto I have to pay the provincial land transfer tax of 5K and the Toronto Land Transfer Tax of 5K. When I buy a house in Hamilton all I pay is the provincial 5K. This is one of the big reasons Toronto can keep their property tax increases low.

woof seems like council is collapsing today with the 5-11 vote not to receive the budget reports. Hitting the veto override number early on already.
January 23, 2026 at 8:51 PM
Can you explain what it means for a vote to receive a report to fail?
January 23, 2026 at 8:34 PM
What's up?
January 23, 2026 at 7:43 PM
The very patronizing tone in which she speaks to everyone on council has not made her a lot of friends.

its all good now.

so they were streaming their screen while entering the PC's password. I watched this IT Manager attempt at least 5+ times to enter the password for the machine before they got it right. 3 of those times they had CAPS LOCK ON.

There is apparently no audio going to be broadcast. So no one online will get to actually here whats happening.
