I exist in at least three dimensions:
gentleman v grump
youthful v tired
disciplined v decadent
Wonderful! Canberra at its best.

And a question, if I may. Did you walk along a path in O'Connor this morning and have a recumbent cyclist (me) say hello as he passed in the opposite direction?

Sending a gentle hug.

Yes, just a few.
Here's a sequence of three photos I took in 2024 as I zoomed in on a group of birds on a sandbank. The gap between 1 and 2 was 7 seconds and between 2 and three was 9 seconds. I had no idea the pelican was there until it stood up.

If you love tulips, you should visit Floriade in Canberra in mid September to mid October.

Thank you.
Isn't the language we use so funny/weird. It seems to betray us at times.
Apparently, Jesus said "Judge not, that you be not judged." Something so many Christians seem to forget so often.

Can I please gently re-phrase that?
They will assess the jumper, and I will be glad to receive their feedback, just as I am grateful to receive yours about it.
I'm careful not to take anyone's comments (positive or negative) as a judgement of me as a person. That would give them power over me.

How did you know about the weightlifting?
I was third in my weight division in the NSW secondary schools weightlifting championships one year back in the late 60s. I think it was '67.
I've never tried fencing, though.

Thank you. I am quite pleased with it.
I plan to enter it in the Canberra Show next month. I figure they can give me some useful feedback about some of the technicalities I still need to improve - things like sewing seams and tidying up the ends of each ball of wool.
January 31, 2026 at 5:52 AM
Correct!
Lazy as …
Who knew?
January 31, 2026 at 5:50 AM
No, I finished knitting it about a week ago. My daughter also knits, so she will give it a proper review. I'll be interested to see if she can see the one obvious (to me) mistake!

Yes, 7.30 start and mostly overcast. Very pleasant.
Motel in Winchelsea tonight and back to Geelong tomorrow to watch the men's race, then family in Melbourne tomorrow night and home to Canberra on Monday.
I get to show off my new jumper to my daughter tomorrow.

Yes, English is adaptable like that.
January 30, 2026 at 5:59 AM
I going to do the short (63km) People's Ride tomorrow morning and then watch the professionals - women on Saturday afternoon and men on Sunday. It should be fun, and not too hot.

Now that I've thought some more about it, I'm still unsure. Isn't the English language fun!
I'm in Geelong for the cycling this weekend, so I can't consult my Oxford English Dictionary, or the Style Guide that came home with me from the Health Department when I retired.

Former English teacher here (many years ago!), so I know it would be 'sheared' if 'to shear' is a weak verb and 'shorn' if 'to shear' is a strong verb. I'd need to check with an actual shearer to discover which it is.
I do love the light you've captured. Wonderful!

I hope that whatever sent you there is but a passing thing.
And yes, you are so right about nurses!

I went through there on the Indian Pacific in 2024 and someone tried to say they could see some sheep in the distance. I convinced them that they were goats with these photos. They were taken with the train at speed, through the double-glazed dirty window, at 252mm focal length.
January 27, 2026 at 7:51 PM
Thanks for that.
I haven't found a decent option in Canberra. Millie's it will be, and I'll sit by the water to eat it. The smell of salt water mixed with salt and vinegar - yum!
January 26, 2026 at 11:23 AM
Absolutely agree with that.
My road space is the 800mm width between the two front wheels, while a bike 'seems' to take up about 15mm because that's the width of the tyre. Drivers don't see the rider, panniers and so on. It leads to beeping and those horrible close passes.

I had to look up where PP is and discovered I've cycled through there in the past. I'm visiting again in March and will probably ride through again, just for fun. I'll wave generally in your direction when I do.
Is Millies Fish and Chips any good?
January 26, 2026 at 7:01 AM
Really pleased to see someone taking possession of the lane!
I know Australia is different, but I've never been beeped at when I do. I think that somehow the trike taking up more space horizontally helps drivers to recognise that there isn't somewhere else for me to go.

It's an 8-ply yarn from a local producer. I bought it direct from them at the farm gate, about 40km from my home. They are at the end of Mill Post Lane, Bungendore.
