Saw a lot of good bands back in the 70s. Not a lot of them left.
Next up was a double single by Billy J Kramer and the Dakotas on Imperial records. This band was managed by Brian Epstein. The A side was “Little Children” and charted at #7. The b side was an Lennon and McCartney song called “Bad To Me”. It charted at #9. The b side was produced by George Martin.

Next up is another Billy Joel reissue by Columbia. The a side is “Honesty” from the album “52nd Street”. It peaked at number 24. The b side was “Sometimes A Fantasy “. It was from the album “Glass Houses”. It peaked at number 36. Both songs were produced by Phil Ramone.

Next up is a Billy Joel reissue from the late ‘70s. The a side is “Only The Good Die Young” which reached number 24. The b side of this reissue was “She’s Only A Woman To Me” which charted at number 17. These were both from the album “The Stranger”. Phil Ramona was the producer of both.

Just spinning a couple of discs on a Friday afternoon. First up is “Just a Little” by the Beau Brummels. The song was recorded in February and March of 1965. It hit number 8 in June of 1965. The song was produced by Sylvester Stewart, aka Sly Stone. The b side was “They Will Make You Cry”.

Last spin of the day is “Let It Be” backed by “You Know My Name (Look Up My Number)”. It reached number one on the charts. The b side was a comedy thing that had been worked of for few years. Brian Jones contributed a sax solo.

Next I listened to “The Ballad of Jon and Yoko”. The B side is “Old Brown Shoe” by George. Only John and Paul appear on the recording. It reached number 8 and in the US due to the fact it was banned in several markets due to the Christ reference.

Next up “Hello Goodbye “ with the b side of “I Am The Walrus” Hello was a number one hit in the US. John wanted Walrus to be the A side but was convinced otherwise as to the lack of commerciality of Walrus.

Next up is “Eleanor Rigby” backed with “Yellow Submarine”. This was released as a double A sided disc. Rigby peaked at number 11 in the US and Submarine hit number 2. The Beatles play no instruments on the recording but Paul, John and John all sing harmonies.

Spinning some 45s on a cold Wednesday afternoon. First up is “Please Please Me” backed by “From Me To You” by The Beatles on Vee-Jay Records. This is the second release of the song (VS581) on January 3, 1964. It was originally released on February 26, 1963 but failed to chart nationally.

Last up for today is “Barbara Ann”. This single reached #2 on the charts. It was backed with “Girl Don’t Tell Me”. The song appeared on the “Beach Boys’ Party!” album. Dean Torrence of Jan And Dean fame sings leads with Brian Wilson.

Next up “Dance, Dance, Dance” backed with “The Warmth of the Sun”. The song was written by Brian Wilson, Carl Wilson, and Mike Love, although Brian’s name is the only one that gets credit on single. It charted at #8. Hal Blaine and Glen Campbell also appear on the song.

First spin today. 4 by the Beach Boy. The A side was “Wendy” and “Don’t Back Down” The B side was “Little Honda” and “Hushaby”. Wendy charted at #44 and Little Honda at #65. All four were from the “All Summer Long” album from ‘64.

“Fun, Fun, Fun” by The Beach Boys. Written by Brian Wilson and and Mike Love and produced by Brian Wilson it hit #5 on the US charts. The Wrecking Crew’s Hal Blaine also plays drums on this along with Dennis Wilson. The b side is “Why Do Fools Fall In Love”.

“Hooked on a Feeling” by BJ Thomas. This was released in 1968 on Scepter Records. It was produced by Chips Moman and written by Mark James. Reggie Young played the electric sitar on it. The song reached #5 on the Billboard chart. The b side is “I’ve Been Down This Road Before”. No ugga chuggas on it

Spinning some records from my 45 rpm collection on a rainy Saturday. First up is the “Thrill is Gone” by BB King. This was released originally in 1969 on the Bluesway/ABC label. It made it to #15 on the billboard chart. He also won a Grammy for it. This rerelease by MCA has So Excited” as the B side

Barry McGuire’s number one hit “Eve of Destruction” from September of 1965. The song was written by PF Sloan who also wrote the B side, “What Exactly’s The Matter With Me”. Sloan played guitar along with a couple of Wrecking Crew Members on the recording.
