I remember reading this book when it first came out over 25 years ago. The author describes how abusive parents almost always refuse to acknowledge what they've done. Susan Forward was one of the first therapists to recommend going "no contact" in cases where the hurt is ongoing.

I see the Cambridge dictionary classes hobby and avocation as synonyms. Huh. I always thought an avocation was as important as a career, even if the work is unpaid. Whereas a hobby is usually more casual. Maybe I should consult another dictionary.

This is so good. Reveals how even well meaning generally decent people perpetuate racism - without even realizing it. The harm these good people do is as corrosive as the acts of the openly hateful.

I never learned anything about this in school. Just as I didn't find out that the head of the Ford Motor Company was a rabid antisemite or than "hero" Charles Lindburgh supported Hitler both before and during the war. My parents saw all this but never mentioned it - as if it'd never happened.

One entire episode revolves around the discovery of a shop that sells “fat free” ice cream or frozen yogurt. The gang can’t stop eating it and exclaiming how delicious it is. At the end they’re disheartened to learn that the treat was not fat free at all, and they had all gained weight.
Sad.

Trump supporters are convinced their rights are being torn away. In a way they are correct. The rest of us have been trying to free them of their "right" to be narrow minded, mean, aggressive and occasionally gleefully murderous.
