My guess is that this is a version of the "Blinovitch limitation effect".

I hope Liz Truss never reads this otherwise she will think she is the new queen

@explaintrade.com has already written that book.

What I wonder is, what happened on the first day he arrived when he didn't have any clues? (This is the kind of episode btw where I can easily ignore problems with the plot and just enjoy it as a work of art)

That's a Dutch proverb 😀
"Wie zijn billen brandt, moet op de blaren zitten"

Or in Dutch: Vogelvoervoorpret 😀

But the fact that many NON-cultists can and do disagree with you here makes this is a weaker one on the list.

For a moment I thought I was looking at a gigantic poster of the third doctor. Nice 😀

I thought (then Dutch prime minister) Rutte was the first to do that in 2018.

It's clear they feel nothing can stop them anymore...

I just rewatched Pandorica Opens/Big Bang. I like where you are going with this. Maybe some quantum mumbo jumbo can work. Conservation of quantum information (not even black holes can destroy information). "Nothing is ever truly forgotten".

It would still have fulfilled the terms of the referendum. Five years of Brexit disaster later, there are plenty of arguments to do exactly that. Even better to join the EU for the second time, if the UK can become an actual supporter of the European Project.

Of course I agree that you can be in the Single Market without being in the EU. I only made the technical point that that should have been negotiated after the Article 50 notification. It was clearly on the table (Barnier staircase).
January 31, 2025 at 10:44 PM
Technically, that's what leaving the EU meant. But yes, it was very much politically on the menu (Barnier staircase).

Thanks, after reading some more replies I think I get it now (“required means required”)
January 22, 2025 at 10:52 PM
But what happens if at the mutually agreed point the UK still doesn't satisfy the criteria for joining the Euro?
January 22, 2025 at 10:26 AM
Also worth mentioning: Brexit has led to enormous pressure on the UK civil service. Pooling sovereignty works.
January 13, 2025 at 7:55 AM
Exactly this. As a layman, popular science books that pretended otherwise only ADDED to my confusion.
January 8, 2025 at 11:56 PM
I saw on twitter how that situation developed from the start, it was really sad to see. Lots of mutual misunderstandings. Let me just say I believe you're all gooduns and I'll leave it at that ❤️

I have to disagree about Brexit Bin being purely transactional. I have followed them for a long time and they have lots of posts about the successes of European integration. Overly optimistic about rejoining imo, but (European) heart in the right place.

jeje threads coming to bluesky any day now, just like matt smith will come back to doctor who 🙏

You are the only reason I still open the twitter app.
January 6, 2025 at 1:00 PM
Imo it’s different leopard factions fighting for control.
December 28, 2024 at 11:34 PM
Aww... Hope you come back once things improve here and enough people have switched to bluesky
December 27, 2024 at 12:27 PM
I didn't read it as Brussels but as "pro-EU purists in the UK who will accept nothing less than joining the EU".
