The word "snake oil salesman" is still fairly common vernacular in America, and somehow it feels like a significant volume of commerce in modern society is powered by the kind of hucksterism that thrived in the 19th century.

Anyway happy Black Friday Cyber Monday week I guess

But this coworker of mine said they really did feel like vertical videos shot on an iPhone felt more genuine. I'll admit that I bought "white van" speakers in a movie theater parking lot when I was in college. Searching AltaVista for what I got radicalized me even though I got them close to cost...

I remember talking to younger coworkers about the topic, probably a decade ago, after I read that "amateur" videos evoke more trust on social media than big brands makign high production commercials. I don't trust any brand, but I don't trust Joe Schmoe hocking pet toys made of cardboard either.

I like the person who made the slide, didn't want to call them out on front of the team.

I got a shout out a couple minutes later that would not have hit the same. They all know I don't fit in anyway, lol

The meeting started at 5:30p (sales and marketing wee), I'm not adding a single extra second

Quick follow up: the 7" doesn't show any strobing, but the 8" shows some at 1/8th speed video. The old ones are terrible. You can kind of see them all here.

I bought both ZYC and Brightlever lights (one was 7", the other was 8", both via Amazon) and noticed afterward they said "No Flicker." I assumed it was BS, but after I installed a set, I shot a 1/8th speed video on my Pixel and didn't get strobing. I don't know when this became a thing, but I'm glad

I know there are people who don't like the light put off by overhead lights, but an important part of home ownership, for me, was being able to light my home without taking up floor space and power outlets. And the old ones won't go in landfill yet - I'll be giving them away in a Buy Nothing group.

It's less than $300 to replace every ceiling light in our house. The new ones are thinner, super easy to install, you can select the color temperature, and the default brightness, they're dimmable, run cooler, and most importantly - they don't use PWM, i.e. they don't strobe in photos and video.
