The Liberal Democrats exist to build and safeguard a fair, free and open society, in which we seek to balance the fundamental values of liberty, equality and community, and in which no-one shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity.
In 2024 Lewisham's Chief Exec said that on current trends the Council would be bankrupt in 2-3 years. This year the Council will spend £22m from reserves.

There's now just £11 million in reserve but normal spending is £249m. It's time for Lewisham Labour to come clean on the Council's finances.

Lewisham requires landlords to get a licence. Our attempts to get reliable data on progress are met with waffle.

The Council claim they're developing software to find unlicensed landlords but 18 months later still no sign of it. Meanwhile tenants in the worst properties will continue to suffer.

A play area in Lockmead Rd has been locked since Covid. Chris Maines has contacted the Council, housing associations and the Met Police to no avail.

"For five years, children have been denied access" said Chris. "It's now an eyesore; the equipment needs to be repaired and the site re-opened."

In 2025 Lewisham residents reported 4,350 inconsiderately parked e-bikes. The Council did nothing with that information.

Lib Dems have called on Lewisham Council to use the data to identify where bikes are most often dumped, collect and store them at the hire companies' expense.

Lewisham's Labour Mayor is paid £88,741 for a full-time job. She's been put into the Lords (another £361 per day tax-free).

Lib Dems called on the Mayor to concentrate on her job in Lewisham and not take up a place in the Lords until the end of her term. The Mayor has rejected our suggestion.

Blackheath campaigner Jean Branch is keen to ensure pavements are well lit. Jean's been reporting street lamps that aren't working and highlighting areas that need improved lighting. That includes the tunnel under the railway at Granville Park.

After its previous attempt to redevelop the Ladywell Playtower failed, Lewisham launched a consultation about the site. That consultation closes tomorrow Thursday, January 29th; details can be found using the link below
