Popup-fatigue is definitely partially to blame, but I also think about how 90% of the text and warnings online are meaningless now, anyway. We don't get popups like "couldn't bind port 5476" we get "Uh-oh the worblox got squanched! Try again later!"

I saw someone once say that just scanning a QR code was enough to get your account stolen, but forgot to mention the QR code sends you to the Discord login page with a red warning saying "DO NOT CONTINUE IF YOU WERE SENT THIS PAGE" and you have to click "log me into their computer" manually.

It's a combination of every corner of tech being turned into a padded room and people slowly caring less about understanding how things work (likely because they're both becoming less understandable and because they don't benefit being understood).

Mastodon is such a good social media. When I first moved there from Twitter my interaction rate spiked 10x despite starting from zero following.

Some artists I follow (namely from Asia) are only on Twitter.

Ideally everyone would be on 4-6 different platforms, but that's too much effort for most people, I guess.

For context: I was asking them about API access for a tool I was making which would allow creators to host their own content (and it would check with SS/Pat/etc for viewer access).

They asked how I was planning on content moderation, hence the above.

All I can say as someone who tried asking them about that: they ghosted me after I clarified that no content moderation can take place if users host content on their own website.
