Short personal reviews of 31 novels on #ResearchIntegrity "Novels can realistically depict the dilemmas scholars need to navigate ... This may help them to reflect on what a good researcher is and what academic scholars can do to stay close to that ideal." bit.ly/409E5ff

I’m honored to be named one of Tagesspiegel’s “100 Researchers of Berlin” for 2025, featured in today’s category “Swimming against the current.” Grateful to be recognized alongside inspiring researchers who challenge convention and push boundaries

This is another wake-up call about what is happening with scientific literature, which is being flooded by template papers produced by paper mills. One example is the use of open-access databases like FAERS or NHANES, combined with analyses that rely on biased or incorrect methodologies.

I believe novels can reveal different aspects of academic life, not unike qualitative research, but with more freedom of expression, which can help to make the didactical points you find important to get across..

Impossible to say. I’ve read them over a period spanning more than a decade. The novels that impressed me most, show how complex the minefield is early career researchers have to navigate. Like e.g. A. Goodman - Intuition and J. Rohn - The honest look (not yet in the preprint).

My favorite part of this story on excellent work by @abalkina.bsky.social and Svetlana Kleiner is when @miryamnaddaf.bsky.social asks the paper mill if they are a paper mill and they respond "it's a secret 😋🙈"
