…but it also just doesn’t make sense as it doesn’t directly impact anyone else.

Attempting to make something a crime punishable by law, just because you personally believe it to be immoral / your religion told you it’s immoral — but that something is an individual act, an individual choice, that solely impacts said individual — is not only dangerous, hypocritical and crazy…

So, it’s safe to say that the law is NOT the meter, nor the determiner for morality.

I would argue that it’s actually a radically weird take to want the law to be the meter and/or determiner for morality. It’s actually an extremely dangerous road to follow.

Example 2:
Being a racist person is not a crime.

But, you’re NOT allowed to racially discriminate in hiring or housing. You are NOT allowed to racially harass someone.

By law, yes, you are legally allowed to hold racist values. While this is technically true, it’s also extremely immoral.

Example 1:
We all pretty much agree that cheating on your partner is immoral.

But we also all pretty much agree that cheating in a relationship shouldn’t and doesn’t need to be a crime punishable by law. We don’t need to get the government involved in that category of personal issue.

But at the same time, so many laws end up eventually being declared immoral and require change, reform, or abolishment all together.

Also, there are plenty of things you can do in life that are super immoral, but are not illegal and don’t need to be.
