Today, we mourn the loss of Michael Seltzer, Funders for LGBTQ Issues co-founder and a transformative leader in LGBTQ and AIDS advocacy. Michael has left an incredible legacy and a mark on organizations like Lambda Legal, Funders Concerned About AIDS, New York’s LGBT Community Center, and more.

Progressive philanthropy investment in LGBTQ communities is in decline at a critical moment for our movements. In 2023, for every $100 awarded by U.S. foundations, only 20 cents specifically supported domestic LGBTQ communities and causes— a decrease from 25 cents of every $100 awarded in 2022.
