A really neat thing about the internet is that regular, every day people can come onto websites like this one and decide to say something kind, uplifting or encouraging and turn a complete stranger's day totally around. I think that's an important thing to hold fast and remember.

It is hard to express how weird it feels to be happy and joyful around holidays this year. I refused to decorate or have anything to do with Christmas for the longest time. Therapy and letting go of extremely toxic people (but still praying for them) has changed me completely.

Tonight, I am being shown music videos and songs by boy bands that I was supposed to like as a kid (nu metal and psychedelic rock raised me), and if these songs were people I'd want to punch them in all of their faces. This is all so bad.

My husband and I are both off today so we decided to go to breakfast together. He has now made friends with everyone in this cafe, and met the grandmother of a student he taught who proceeded to hug him and almost cry about how wonderful he is. Literally, the friendliest most jovial man ever. 💜

While people are talking thanksgiving food on here, I have to mention that my friends were always freaked out about my family not partaking. My paternal grandmother and aunts served lasagna and eels for both thanksgiving and Christmas. My mom's family didn't do Thanksgiving at all.

I don't know how to delicately tell people that are deeply offended by everything that isn't their specific lived experience that maybe they should log off, but maybe they should log off. It's seriously ok to just keep scrolling if something innocuous doesn't apply to you.

I dropped out of law school because it wasn't right for me and everyone was making me angry. I met a North Korean refugee at a speaking event. I decided that I was put on this planet to defend and protect the most vulnerable and to combat/understand fascism.

I thought I'd avoided the off putting quasi writer and gross politician discourse, but I innocently got on this website to look for a specific picture of a specific fungus and ended up in the blast radius of it.
This sort of thing is why I spend less and less time online, man. Gross.

Y'all, I went to a birthday dinner tonight, and the table got a whipped ricotta. I can't get over the gigantic fluffy pita. It's so pretty! I got a garlic confit Caesar, and it was heavenly.

Just got done speaking with a group of priests and pastors on ways they can protect their congregations from government terror, and let me tell y'all, the passionate resistance from faith communities is really heartening.

Y'all, I got to step in and fuss a bully today. I'm the self appointed bus stop watcher for my street since I am out and about early, and I've gotten to know all the kids. Anyway, I used to be a teacher, and the Miss Leah voice came all the way out at the meanness. No bullies, ever.

We finally got some much needed rain overnight, and that made for a wonderful #FungiFriday morning wander! These came out of nowhere and appear to be honey mushrooms of some sort. Lots of dead roots from an old, long gone tree over that way.

My week has been sour. I wanted something sweet (but also sorta healthy), so I made date bark with homemade peanut butter, peanuts, a sugar free caramel and vegan chocolate drizzle. Sort of like a Snickers and feels indulgent, but is way better for me.
