I'm also supposed to be going to the work Christmas do tonight, though I think if this whatever-it-was pops up again I might end up skipping it after all

I don't have a human-reading one, unfortunately, so I guess I'm not going to get a definite answer there

I'm almost wondering if I've just had a near miss on popping a fever, or something - I do have a bit of that weird/vague feeling you get the day before a cold/flu bug fully erupts, though I have no other symptoms, so 🤷

The classic fan theory is always the sort where you take one look at it and think "WTF..?", then you read the argument and you think, "Actually I'm at least 50% convinced you're right..."

Reading the actual article, it turns out VHS 1256B is an L-T transition object, which both clarifies things and confuses others (TBH I wouldn't expect an L/T transition to look like Jupiter either - it's a notoriously-confused area!)

Case-in-point, I wouldn't expect a young/hot M-type brown dwarf to look like Jupiter! I'd expect it to look like, well, a red dwarf star, because that's what it (almost) is.

Also, evidence for very heavy rain sounds intriguing, though I note "tropical" rainfall is actually a more vague description than it sounds.

I've seen photos of it - it looks so innocous too, you'd never guess just from the pictures that little *thing* is death itself!
