Have you stopped to think why we all haven’t jumped at a magic button that does our job for us? It’s because that graft, that stress, that work, that IS the job.

There’s hundreds of examples like this - you’ve seen them. I don’t need to repeat them.

You’re walking on pitch mid match, picking up the ball, taking it past bewildered players and throwing it into the net then celebrating like you’ve won the World Cup. You’ve done no such thing, and everyone else can’t work out why you haven’t been arrested.

You’ve wandered into a professional restaurant kitchen, picked up ingredients from in front of confused chefs, tossed them on a plate, and are now proudly doing a dance about it so everyone can see.

The worse part is we fucking love when someone shows interest in what we do and would go out of our way to encourage your interest - we’re simple beings like that. But you’re NOT really interested - the graft, the stress, the work, what we actually do.

But you want the disgraced darkened corner that creatives inhabit too, because you always want more - that is your curse.

We can’t choose to not be creative, it’s OUR curse. You can choose to not try and do it.

We quietly grumble about this amongst ourselves always. Well done. Congratulations. Society and the world is constructed to suit you.

You might suddenly be uncontrollably jealous of what we do for no reason but guess what, we’re quite jealous of your regular pay, pension, evenings and weekends to your own, clothes you bought this year, that bonus cheque you got, learnt social skills, work provided dental, and so on and so on.

Surely the long arm is designed to be installed behind Woody, not both arms on one side of his body??

Then a zillion rewatches of the films taped off ITV - complete with bits of the Muppet Show and Kenny Everett before and after.
