There's going to be an increased level of uncertainty forecasting the UK's weather during the next fortnight.

Why?

This is Super Typhoon Ragasa.

During the next few days, the typhoon will bring a risk of torrential rain, flooding, damaging winds and a coastal storm surge to southern China. It may then reach northern Vietnam.

The warmth is very brief, with colder air arriving across the whole UK by Sunday.

Weather models suggest this will eventually end up as a hurricane that curves across the Atlantic.

Much of England has had more rain in the first half of September than it did in the whole of June!

Shoreham, West Sussex, has seen 94mm of rain in the first half of September. This is almost SIX times the 16mm it saw in whole of June.

Yes, often due to a misunderstanding that mean temperature is what's used, not just maximum temperatures.

Note that for many areas, it was summer 2025.

1976 is no longer the warmest summer on record for any area.

The UK has just had its warmest summer on record, according to the Met Office.

The UK's top five warmest summers have now all occurred since 2000.

What about the infamous long, hot and sunny summer of 1976? That's been relegated into sixth place.
