Ultimately, @libdemshk.bsky.social believe the time is right for reform of Council Tax and of the funding model for Local Government. But until then, we will do everything we can to protect those residents on the lowest incomes from Council Tax increases.

We know that people are struggling with their bills - inflation, interest rates, the cost of energy... everything is going up. That's why the Liberal Democrats took a political decision, against officer recommendations, to preserve our Council Tax support scheme.

And we are geographically the largest unitary authority in the country (which means services are more expensive to deliver).

The Gov has given permission for Somerset Council to increase CT 2.5% above the 5% cap, in recognition of Somerset Council's unique position.

We have below-average CT levels in Somerset (not helped by the disastrous former Tory County Council freezing CT for 6 years…
