Tumbler Ridge Public Library is keeping its doors open in the aftermath of Tuesday's mass shooting as schools cancel classes and some organizations temporarily shutter in the B.C. town. Head librarian Paula Coutts said it was important to remain open 'to provide some sense of normalcy and comfort.'

More than 10,000 books were tossed from the shelves at H.B. Beal Secondary School's library last year. Thames Valley District School Board said recycling the books was part of a standard review practice, but some librarians and archivists say there are better ways to give books a second life.
