SNAP rolls also include *current* military personnel and veterans, as well as millions of people who go to work everyday. In Louisiana and West Virginia, both red states, nearly 1 in 5 people receive assistance.
Someone want to tell Mikey here that 86% of all SNAP benefits go to households that include a child, an elderly person, or a person with disabilities?

Or that almost 40% of SNAP recipients are children?

And that Whites account for 37% of SNAP recipients?

Changes to Oklahoma’s curriculum rules make it so teachers aren’t supposed to tell students that the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921 — a defining incident of racial violence in Oklahoma history — was perpetrated by racists.

On a personal note, I also find that the young people around me are envious of our generation’s ability to initiate social interactions. And very very intrigued by our friend groups.

I showed a preteen Saved By The Bell this summer on a lark. They were entranced by the friend group thing.
Agree.

My young adults envy the ease with which their (in my case) GenX parents socialize, make conversations and organize activities.

And the large, co-ed friend groups of our youths, when a few people were always up for going out, and ‘friends of friends’ presented low stakes dating potential.

Today I am resigning from the National Science Board and the Library of Congress Scholars Council.

Books open the door to important conversations.

When kids read about tough topics—like identity, injustice, or mental health—talking with them builds trust, empathy, and critical thinking. Don't shy away; lean in. Your support helps them understand the world and their place in it.
