Yes, LibreOffice supports change tracking in .doc(x) files too! 😊 Note that OpenOffice now has several years-old, unfixed security problems and is classed as "red" risk by Apache, so is not recommended for production use: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apache_...

Be careful, as OpenOffice has years-old, unfixed security problems and is classed as "red" risk by Apache, so is not recommended for production use: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apache_... – But there are actively maintained and fixed successor projects, still free and open source. Stay safe!

OpenOffice's last big update was in 2014. There have been some smaller updates, but now they've stopped and it has years-old, unfixed security problems so is strongly not recommended for production use: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apache_... – Regarding compatibility issues, what exactly? Let's fix them!

OpenOffice has years-old, unfixed security problems and is strongly not recommend for production use: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apache_... – But there are actively maintained and fixed successor projects (like LibreOffice) for those wanting to get away from Microsoft Office 😉

LibreOffice is the most actively maintained successor project. It was based on OpenOffice, and is still free and open source, backed by a non-profit organisation (The Document Foundation). It has many new features and hugely improved Microsoft Office compatibility.

Please, please don't recommend insecure software! OpenOffice has years-old, unfixed security problems and is classed as "red" security risk by Apache: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apache_... – It's far safer to use one of the actively maintained and fixed successor projects (such as LibreOffice)...

Stay safe! OpenOffice has years-old, unfixed security problems and is strongly not recommended for production use: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apache_... – At least use one of the actively maintained and fixed successor projects (such as LibreOffice).

More and more governments and organisations are freeing themselves from vendor lock-in! The Austrian military has moved 16,000 PCs to #LibreOffice – getting vital digital sovereignty in the process: blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2025/09...

That's risky – OpenOffice has years-old, unfixed security problems and "red" security risk status from Apache, so is not recommended for production use: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apache_... – Maybe ask your library to use one of the actively maintained and fixed successor projects. Keep users safe 😊

Note that OpenOffice's last big update was in 2014. There have been some small updates, but those stopped two ago and it has unfixed security problems: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apache_... – There are actively developed and fixed successor projects, with Apple Silicon support, such as LibreOffice.

Yes, you can download it separately. But all Linux distributions include LibreOffice as the default office suite (or have it in their package repositories) as OpenOffice has "red" security risk by Apache and unfixed security problems: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apache_...

Linux distributions haven't shipped OpenOffice for years. Its last major update was in 2014, and now it has years-old, unfixed security problems: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apache_... – All desktop Linux distros ship with (or make available) LibreOffice, the actively developed successor project.
