@MichaelaKHulse if you actually like tofu for its own sake, the silken one's good cut into cubes and warmed in a broth light enough not to overwhelm it – just salt, a sliver of ginger and one vegetable. You can cross-slice it to open like a sea anemone under the broth, if you're good with a […]

@janef0421 sometimes also an *immense* unnecessary expense. The compulsory blazer at my son's school costs a few hundred dollars.

And also sometimes an *exploitative* unnecessary expense. The uniform markets are often controlled by monopolists because they'll have little details like an […]

@Salty Personally, I question NZ's funding for Winston Peters.

@grumpyyetamusin.bsky.social I hope that they carry it through to conclusion this time. The US is no stranger to riots. I remember the Baltimore ones when I lived in the northeast, and friends who lived only a few blocks from where the rioting was. I remember the Sandy Hook shootings only 90 […]

@enniusredloeb.bsky.social First time I've ever seen "de" ligated like that. De positione terrae. Took me a few tries to find all the letters!

@SimonCHulse @Salty My town has these roadscraper cars, too! Plus speed bumps for them in each of the main parking lots.

I don't imagine that they're especially safe when having to cope with debris on the roads, whether blown there by wind, carried there by water, or fallen from a truck.

@SimonCHulse @Salty We also have a local who can't cope with Māori road signs. He posted on facebook a year or so ago ranting about how he's such a risk to other drivers because his brain is consumed 180% or whatever when he has to make sense of signs saying "KURA". Such signs, he explained […]

@SimonCHulse @Salty license endorsements and conditions for long vehicles and for wide vehicles sounds no less reasonable than the "must wear corrective lenses" annotation.

I'd also like to see all those vehicles with non-functioning indicators banned. That's about half of the cars in my town […]

@Salty @SimonCHulse I wish so too, and also for the motorbikes with ineffective mufflers, and the vehicles too wide to fit in a lane, and the vehicles with headlights mounted at the same height as the eyes of oncoming drivers.

@skinnylatte New Zealand's a lot like this, and the education system maintains that by offering such bad, bad language courses. The intro courses in particular are especially thin.

Now it's ok to be "foreign" and speak another language without being harangued for it. At least that much has […]

@va2lam @pezmico We could do with some reporters putting up a sign in the background saying "[n] days of current disaster since Prime Minister last seen"

@phil_stevens like @paulhellyer I lost a clinical report including a substantial biographical history – much of it irrelevant to the case but clinicians seem to have a poor sense of judgement about this. Still, that's good material for an impersonator, identity thief, phisher. I was thinking […]

@grumpyyetamusin.bsky.social My current one once told me that she'd talk with the DHB and St John's about their handling of people in psychiatric distress (a psychotic friend, specifically, deep in hallucinations and paranoia, whom I'd been calming down while my wife phoned for help that never […]
