Don McLean played at my college in the 80s, a big cafeteria with rows of metal folding chairs. He opened the show with American Pie. A big crowd rushed the stage to dance and then immediately sat back down for the remainder of the show. Until. He closed the show with American Pie (again). Mosh pit!

one time I was in Tom Rapp's Pearls Before Swine band + during soundcheck I'm standing right next to Kurihara- he had only 1 pedal- homemade, unmarked, one stomp switch- nothing else. I was wondering what it was + once he hit it the room filled with noise/delay/verb/gooey sweetness OBV the PSF pedal
