Your question is a hermeneutical one, about how to distinguish between accurate and inaccurate/incomplete perception. It’s generally accepted that we directly perceive a small fraction of the phenomenal world we inhabit, so saying a thing is invalid because we don’t usually see it is unscientific.

Science also posits that dark matter is invisible, hypothetical, and accounts for roughly 27% of the mass-energy content of the universe.
I don’t mean simply in the sense of science (or the universe) being simple, just that it’s the most logical way to account for the phenomenon.

Like, if people from disparate cultures and no predisposition or expectation of seeing little people all see little people doing the same sorts of stuff and being cute, industrious, and non-threatening etc, their being *real* would be the simplest explanation.
