Been lurking here for a while, so might as well show off my #gamedev project, RUBIE! It's a game about abusing your ability to respawn to solve puzzles and delete the System32 folder from your computer (don't actually do that)!

Here's a few environments I've made for the game so far! #indiegames

Finally was able to figure out saving keybinds between sessions. My solution might be janky, but so is everything else in this game so as long as it works I'm happy lmao

Apparently I started work on #RUBIE about 2 years ago! It's kind of crazy seeing how much this game has evolved over time. Luckily I still have plenty of old builds of the game, so I can look at old prototypes pretty easy!

Here's a few screenshots, each from a more recent build than the last.
A very basic prototype for a puzzle game. The level is built out of white grid-like tiles, and most of the elements are either crudely drawn or squashed and stretched Godot Engine logos. An early build of a puzzle-platformer game. The graphics are basic, mostly being made up of purple tiles. The purple tiles now are decorated with pipes and wires, and the overall feel is more polished Similar to the last screenshot, but the platforms are less busy, the player character is a blue figure now, and a large screen sits on the right of the frame with a pink smiley-face observing the scene in it.

Whoops, been a while since I last posted about #RUBIE :3c

I recently decided that I don't like how much clutter these out-of-bounds decorations add, so I've decided to swap them out for a much more subtle solution. I think it looks pretty good!

The platforms are arranged in a grid pattern, and to break up this grid pattern, several larger squares take up sections of the grid.

Elden Ring DLC should not be part of the Game Awards as GOTY.

I'm gonna start my own game awards and it's all indie games for real. If you win, you get a personal pizza from Dominos or Pizza Hut, we're on a budget here. If you win GOTY you get a personal pan pizza and a Kickstarter plug.

I've been seeing a lot of pixel artists struggle with Bluesky's image compression, so I'd thought I'd share how to get clear, crisp pixels on the site!

When uploading to Bluesky, remember to resize your works to 800%! Why? Images are converted to .jpeg when uploaded. .jpeg compresses the image into 8x8 pixel blocks. If a block has more than one colour, that dreaded compression occurs!
