He came across a stack of records on a sidewalk in Germany. Knowing I would appreciate such random treasures, he lugged them throughout his travels & delivered them to me at GDC in this hardshell suitcase. 53 in total.

Oops, I posted too soon. I snuck in one more before the end of the year. It was honestly the perfect wrap up/summary of what I had read in more depth from similar sources and areas of study.

This leads to more slop. A style of the creation (shorter, worse) through a means of production (paid more, work less). It maintains a process of fabricating hollow products in exchange of paid effort. A snide solution, albeit empathic, with no inherently creative experience for anyone involved.

Reflecting on my 2024 creative journey
2024 has seen many of my creative endeavors enter the world. The release of my book, my first director credit, my most absurd GDC talk and the reveal of the game I’m most creatively aligned with. All feel like glimpses of my true creative values on display for others to encounter. And yet, this year I have felt more creatively adrift than ever before. Unsure of what I should be doing next. How and why is that? I believe I became lost seeing those as bespoke goals I had intentionally mapped out the destination of prior. I had fallen for that simplified story our internal narrative and external culture want us to believe. Reality is messier than that. Each cited endeavor was the result of me noticing something creatively unknown to me, committing to the act of experiencing it and then failing repeatedly towards realizing it. Each of those creative endeavors has been an instance of me arriving at different spots as part of me flopping about on my creative journey. So onwards I shall flop.
