It's not the best DKC (that's either 2 or TF), but it's my favorite. I replay it annually, and I've gradually come to realize it's probably my overall favorite game ever made. Fantastic layered art and music contrasted with an elegantly simple setup: your bananas were stolen, go get them back.

I was bummed the first fight because he looked like he was gonna do Lockjaw and then suddenly he was doing that weird TopMan spin. But hey, they did it in the real one! Genuinely some very solid references to Hunters with his attacks and mechanics, it was pretty neat to see

I had the bonus of replaying Hunters prior to 4 so I was just fully expecting that final scan to be there. Gotta admit it was one of the most exciting moments in the game for me, being correct about it as the final Sylux Forces scan

It also does feel like a feel good victory lap in a lot of ways, but there's really something to a final boss that fights you multiple times because it refuses to lose and openly shouts at you that it hates you

This is one of the best parts of Bananza. Game that unabashedly loves and pays tribute to Rare and makes a final boss gauntlet that's the only boss fight that even puts up a challenge, the entire time literally yelling at you that it hates you and wants to destroy you as it refuses to stand down.

I really hope this is partially them prepping a sequel, screwing around in a new engine and getting new models etc ready with an easier project before a fully unique one. Either way, glad that anything is happening with the series

Fredrik stuff was just so... desperate feeling? Very little imagination to it beyond "we want K. Rool". Bananza speculation is way more fun because it definitely feels like something is going on with all the crocodile theming and the Rare nods, and Bananza actually has a clear story focus

Hadn't thought of Crocodile Isle being Ingot Isle, that's an interesting thought and it DOES have brambles... My current called shot is the final two levels are sunken Crocodile Isle and then DKC2's Lost World. Regardless of what happens, it's wild how many deep cut references we're already seeing
