Today marks fifty days since I started to learn Welsh. I’m amazed at myself. Dw i’n mwynhau dysgu cymraeg!

Today was a landmark day. I spoke Welsh with a real live native Welsh speaker for the first time - and she understood me!!!

I spent some of today reading 175 years of the annals of Tewkesbury abbey in Latin. My Latin isn’t great but the satisfaction is greater than paying £6 for the translation on Amazon.

I’ve got Margam abbey in Latin as well; tomorrow’s fun, maybe.

Today marks the 742nd anniversary of Edward I wiping out one of the longest reigning dynasties in Europe - the princes of Gwynedd. They ruled unbroken from 450 to 1282. Edward hasn’t even been dead that long yet.

We’ve recently dug out our old digital cameras and had a look at what’s on them. The many little films made by my son from age eight prove why he’s now in his third year studying film production.

Arrived at my daughters’s ballet exam and found a stressed 17yr old, who’d never done a bun on someone other than herself, appointed as hairdresser and close to tears. I had to step in. Eight buns later, all done, with a relieved assistant and grateful mums and daughters.

This week we’ve sympathised with the white ribbon initiative; shared we’d all disliked Gregg Wallace all along.

Then settled in to watch Wolf Hall…
