My dad worked this crop when the short handled hoe was the norm. Still so brutal. 🙏🏽
Weeding a lettuce field is hard work. Swinging a hoe for 8 hours while keeping your neck and eyes down just makes your body ache. But it's important to clear space and break up the dirt, so there is room for the lettuce to grow. #WeFeedYou

Jesus has picked strawberries for 13 years in Watsonville, CA. He shares, "In this video we are removing the flowers so that the strawberry plants grow stronger. It was raining very hard this day with a lot of water in the rows. It is very slippery on days like this." #WeFeedYou

There was thick blankets of snow on the ground, but skeleton crew of 4-5 workers were out thinning dozens of rows of apple trees in upstate NY apple orchards. Farm workers don't get snow days. #WeFeedYou

These farm workers are picking winter strawberries for minimum wage. It's towards the end of the harvest, so the work is slowing down. It was a sunny day, but wind made the temperature seem colder than it was. #WeFeedYou

Chocolate covered strawberries are great to enjoy on #ValentinesDay. Remember, this sweet treat is picked by human hands like Manuel’s, shown making his way through slippery muddy rows. He works by piece rate, so he has to hurry to pick and earn more. #WeFeedYou

My mother did this work. I will never forget her stories of the pain after a days work. 🙏🏽
Maria is hard at work planting strawberries in Watsonville CA for the next harvest. She shares, "This work is very tiring because I am bent over all day. I have to work very fast in this position without stopping and taking breaks." #WeFeedYou

This back breaking work is only made harder and more dangerous by the smoke and ash. Grateful and indebted to these workers.
Ventura County strawberry workers are harvesting in heavy smoke from the Hughes Fire. We remind workers their employers have to provide them with respirator masks if the AQI exceeds 150. Stay safe! #WeFeedYou

Cesar Chavez followed Dr King’s career since the 1950s Montgomery bus boycott. Whenever newspapers carried accounts of #MLK battles, the stories "would jump out of the pages at me," Cesar said. MLK reaffirmed Cesar's commitment to nonviolent struggle & inspired UFW's boycotts. 1/

Gia shared this pic from where farm workers are harvesting carrots in Santa Maria: We pull and bunch carrots. At the end of the day our hands ache from the repetitive motion. I only earn minimum wage, but I am grateful to be in a crew that has a year-round work. #WeFeedYou
