Hi! I agree that in modern terms punishment rarely matters as much as punishment does. I think exposure is crucial to belief and can lead people to misinformation. #UWJ201 #318

Hi! I think AI development can be aligned with human morals
and principles more than its own.
I think the government should regulate platforms more than users. #UWJ201 #318

Hi! I think proving conspiratorial thinking does more good than harm, like the fact-checking we've covered in lecture. In fact, I think it's a responsibility of journalists to investigate conspiracy claims and in order to clarify the truth and inform the public. #UWJ201 #318

I think the biggest example of defying the spiral of silence is protests, but even these cannot take traction without a larger group. In fact, this is what makes protest coverage essential because it helps break the spiral of silence by showing people are not alone in their opinions. #UWJ201 #318

Hi! I think the most effective way to limit bias as a journalist is to diversify your media repertoire in order to have a balanced and moderate outlook. Additionally, striving for active objectivity is important. #J201 #318

Great point! I think media censorship coming from the government should always be fairly liberal in order to ensure free speech, but in the case of social media I think limiting misinformation and hate speech is a crucial responsibility of such apps. #J201 #318

Wow! This is very interesting and I think a great example of agenda setting’s impact on the public’s decisions. #J201 #318

Yes! I definitely agree i think a “good” life is subjective and based on personal interests. #J201 #318

Algorithmic bias targets WOC more than anyone else. Often reducing identities to more harmful sexualized stereotypes. Mirroring the social norms of reality, tech and algorithms typically favor white men the most. #UWJ201 #318

Hi! Unfortunately, social media often frames protests in a negative light, focusing on more dramatic moments of violence and destruction than the larger social context and reason why protestors are fighting for change. #UWJ201 #318

While entertainment is the leading way to engage with current audiences, I think social media has led to an oversaturation of personal storytelling that the public is already starting to grow tired of. I don't know what path media will take to grab attention but I'm excited to see! #UWJ201 #318

Hi! I think ethics come in to play if the rapid switch to new alarms is too consistent, with articles aiming to grab attention rather than inform. If not, I think the cycle of alarm coverage resembles the nature of scandals and normal fluctuation of societal issues. #UWJ201 #318

Yes! Horse-race journalism definitely failed Clinton & Harris as in an effort to prove their worth against male candidates in a patriarchal nation, they cannot do the same risky attention-grabbing acts. Therefore they receive less coverage and eventually less votes. #UWJ201 #318

I also was concerned with the monopolization of the news and media industry. As they grow larger I think empires must remember the local papers in order to support the 'everyman' and maintain journalism as an industry that tells the truth and news for all, rather than just the powerful. #UWJ201 #318

Great question! I found that we often are deterred from technology use when websites engage in "third-party sharing", as it feels like a violation of privacy and creepy surveillance. As a whole, people tend not to mind being targeted as long as sites are transparent. #UWJ201 #318

Hi! Great question, I think ensuring media information is correct is more up to users than ever in the wake of fact-checker removals on sites like Meta. I think the first step is diversifying our media diets in order to promote non-partisan information to reach a broader group. #UWJ201 #318
