However all of the aspects of the game come together in a package that is clearly made with love and not intended to be a ripoff of anything. The entire game is a massive love letter to the industry and the greats that came before it.

For example all the dark souls homages. The dead expeditioners are the same as the husks in Xenoblade 3. It's overall theme is very similar to both Xenoblade 3 and persona 3. It's UI is very P5. It's traversal follows classic FF exploration to a T.

That said some of the criticisms I've read about it are genuinely valid. Probably the biggest one is that nothing it does is actually original. You can point to any individual aspect of the game, and some other story or game has done it already.

But if any game was going to win the accolades and public acclaim it has, I'm glad it's a game that was genuinely made with love and with the enjoyment of the player first and foremost, which a deep story and insane world building, instead of Competitive FPS games that are the usual winners.

Whether or not you think it deserves Goty is ultimately a personal call and it'll change person to person. For example I actually don't think I would say it's my Goty 2025, because of the ten year wait on XDE. So like the wait for that outweighs it for me personally.

Let me phrase it like this, if any game was going to dethrone Elden Ring for the most Goty awards, I'm glad it was a game like Clair Obscur that actually deserves it instead of generic shooter #1000 like Arc Raiders or helldiver's lol

See for me it's not even anything writing or like that lol. I just preferred the multiple routes structure of the first one that slowly unveiled the whole truth. By comparison the two route twist is neat, but it only really works once, and some of the charm is lost in a replay

I *highly* recommend Clair Obscur. It is the only game I think I've ever played that's actually lived up to the hype everyone told me about it.

The ending of AiNi is still one of the most unhinged developer powertrips lol. I didn't like the rest of the story quite as much as the first one, but that ending is one I'm gonna remember for a while.
