Adding to this thread: sadly it's not just paperbacks, hardcovers too suffer the same issue. Also an issue is that not all PODs are printed the same way, depending on country of origin quality of paper and print varies awfully.
Please don't buy paperbacks (or any books) from Amazon. For many many reasons, including that the company will ship crummy print-on-demand copies of books when their stock runs out. For the same price and with no indication that the book is facsimile.
