Having been in read only mode for years, finally trying out posting on social media. Got put on a giant block list within 2 days - good going I'd say
The exciled chagossians themselves would seriously dispute that Mauritius EVER owned the Chagos islands. It was Britain that associated them and Britain that 'separated' them. They say they are chagossian and want the right to self determination. Their advocacy groups hate the deal.

To balance the conflict of rights, surely third spaces is the way forward.

Hahahaha.... oh, you're serious. Elbit lost out on the contract to Raytheon. They literally make some of the bombs dropped on Gaza. If you think the hunger strikers had any impact on the decision you're deluded.

Sometimes you're into the world of finding the least worst choice. I think in this case, the least worst choice is for us to not intervene in Iran at this point.

I don't particularly follow Trumps domestic actions. Not American, don't live there, lots happening in the world, don't see why I would bother over other things. His foreign policy is important of course, but not domestic.

If that is their main aim, then why continue to the point of death? The protests have done a much better job of brining attention to the two issues already. Not sure how the crackdown on Palestine action members is undemocratic, with the decision to proscribe taken by an elected politician however
January 13, 2026 at 6:42 AM
It's a wide and varied history. In many cases it's used to bring attention to something. It's not the case here, where they have specific demands which are pretty wide ranging. Shutting down a private company. Forcing a judge to reverse their order to remand in custody. These things will not happen.
January 12, 2026 at 9:41 PM
I didn't see anywhere where charlesurface said that was the only demand. The issue their original post was calling the demands blackmail - I wouldn't use that word, but it is true they are threatening to kill themselves if their demands aren't met.
January 12, 2026 at 9:28 PM
While they have other demands, it is not a misrepresentation to say a demand is that Palestine action stops being proscribed. You only think its a false equivalence because you agree with the demand.

Do what I say or I'll kill myself is their position. If they die, it's entirely on them.

Sorry, that reply was meant for a different thread and I confused it with this one. I can see why it doesn't make and sense.

It might be a surprise, but people in the UK are able to judge the merits of a political party's plan without reference to the USA. The ICE style hyperbole is just deliberate catnip to core supporters than can be ignored when looking at what they are planning. Which isn't much beyond a headline TBH
January 9, 2026 at 1:41 PM
You can only fit a few things into a news report. Most people only pick up on a few major news things at a time. A bad cop shooting in a random US city wouldn't even be in my top 100 of things that deserve to be in UK news. Believe it or not, we can cover UK politics without reference to the USA
January 9, 2026 at 1:38 PM
What happens in the UK will be the explicit choice of UK political parties. We're closely aligned to the USA foreign policies, but our domestic policies are far apart. Healthcare, tax, social policy, etc etc. Europe is far far more relevant for our domestic approach than the USA even with Brexit.
January 9, 2026 at 10:48 AM
What's ridiculous is thinking I have to care about something an ICE agent did in some random US city to understand what trump is doing with Venezuela. I don't care specific about German domestic policy. Or Polish. But l can still understand their approach to Ukraine.
January 9, 2026 at 9:50 AM
The domestic actions of a US administration have literally no impact on my or your safety at all, unless we're actually in the USA. Absolutely ridiculous to suggest otherwise. International stuff like Venezuela or Greenland, definitely. But ICE aren't going to come to the UK and arrest people.
January 9, 2026 at 9:40 AM
Given it's a foreign government, probably not much more than I do when Iran, or China or any other foreign country does it. Don't understand the obsession with US domestic policy and domestic events. How many UK people commenting on what happened can actually point to Minneapolis on a map?
January 9, 2026 at 9:21 AM
Organise and fight back? Erm, I'm not sure if you have noticed but this is a domestic policing issue in the USA and you're a British MP. Maybe concentrate on things that matter to the UK?
