IT COULD’VE BEEN A REAL TWEET FROM 1986, WE HAVE TO BE SURE

addendum: I know my pictures are bad. My phone is bad and I am bad at using it.

Played a pretty wide selection of their best stuff. It was a phenomenal night. Really hope I get a chance to catch them again when I’m not feeling so shitty

Couldn’t stop talking about how happy they were to be playing here again. No mention of future plans but I had to cut out just before the encore for reasons.

I hadn’t seen them before but a lot of people in the crowd were saying they sounded better than they did when they were younger.

someone got some papers mixed up, they put their business plans in the library return dropbox and had to do a business pitch for a cafe with a book of Donald Barthelme short stories

get out, get out now, just run and don't stop

It's a one-off gig at the opening of a new club in their old hometown, might just be a "favor for a friend" situation. I'm hoping for a wider tour but I haven't heard anything about their plans.

I was going to make a joke about opening for Gary Numan but it wasn't funny and then I went and looked and he's touring with the Furs himself this fall. I don't think this means anything but it's weird.

The 2013 remaster fixed a lot of this and made the whole album much better (except 15 seconds of Blue Heaven, which it made slightly worse!)

The Pogues - Peace & Love. Shane McGowan's lifestyle was starting to catch up to him and the band just started pasting one overdub after another onto the album to try to cover for his decline. The whole thing dissolved into a muddy mess.

It’s still touring! I just saw a screening three weeks ago with a Q&A afterward by Jerry Harrison. Maybe there’s one close enough for you to catch?

My favorite weird bit of trivia about them is that they brought Ivan Julian on as guitarist for a European tour in the early 70's. A few years later, he'd become a founding member of New York art-punk band Richard Hell and the Voidoids.

I'm legitimately excited for this but you can't deny that it would be worthwhile just to see what happens when you put Mike Love in front of a bunch of aging punks.

Never would have guessed that the Pope knew Ronald McDonald

I think he just confused Karl Marx with Hari Seldon. It's OK, he'll figure it out.

Long Knives Drawn is probably the one I put on the most but Look Now Look Again is fantastic too.

Best from an actual bin was Bowie's Diamond Dogs.

But I got nearly the full discographies of Braid, Rainer Maria, and Of Montreal for $2/disc in one of Polyvinyl's garage sales a few years back.

The next bit's fun, though. A lot of foundational computer science work happened because Lord Byron was a shitty dad.
