I don't disagree that they should have held out at least another week after elections. All either retiring or not up til at least 2028. I guess I'm hoping that SOMEhow this will work out in the end.

The TX seat is a runoff between 2 Dems. Not sure about Sherrill's but presuming a blue seat.

But here is my question: does this not compel Johnson to call the House in, swear in Grivalda, to vote on amended CR before the government re-opens? If he doesn't - how can anyone put the shutdown on anyone but the GOP?
November 10, 2025 at 3:43 PM
And now - House must reconvene to vote on the amended CR. Which means MAGA Mike is compelled to swear in Grivalda (correct?). And that puts the release of the Epstein files into motion. Not a bad upside.

If anyone - it'll be either Boebert or Mace, not Massie or MTG.
November 10, 2025 at 3:30 PM
TN7 will either yield the 219th signature on that discharge petition or the Republican will be the 217th no vote. It's irrelevant.
November 10, 2025 at 3:27 PM
Well, but now there is absolutely zero way anyone can say the Dems are the reason the shutdown is continuing.
November 10, 2025 at 3:26 PM
It won't matter though he is only the 217th no vote, as long as nobody changes their existing vote - Grivalda is the tie-breaker.
November 10, 2025 at 3:25 PM
Grivalda is the 218th vote tho.
435 minus 218 is...217. TN-7 would be the 217th "no" vote, as it presently stands. So if the Dem wins TN-7 there will be 219 signatures on that discharge petition.
November 10, 2025 at 3:24 PM
See - this. They had to change the dates covered by the CR so the House has to vote on it also.
If MAGA Mike calls the House into session he can't possibly avoid swearing in Grivalda, who will sign the discharge petition and there will be a mandatory vote w/in 7 days.

Unless I'm missing something
November 10, 2025 at 3:21 PM
Nope. She is THE majority vote. 218 + 217 = 435. Doesn't matter who wins TN-7 on 12/2 (altho I wish the Dem well) as long as those 4 GOP votes stand firm.
November 10, 2025 at 3:19 PM
Okay but - does this not mean that (bc CR now to Jan not 11/21) House has to reconvene to approve the changes before shutdown ends? MAGA Mike can't reconvene without swearing Adelita Grivalda in, correct? And once sworn in, she signs discharge petition, mandatory vote w/in 7 legislative days, right?

Democrats asked for ONE THING today to reopen the govt: Keep health insurance subsidies where they are at now for one year. That is IT. Nothing else.

Republicans said no.

So all the lies they tell every day about things Dems are asking for is BS.
Republicans OWN this shutdown.
