Updated intro - I’m a NY based fashion designer but I post less about fashion and more about about climate/environmental issues, covid/disability rights, all things SWANA, & animal rights these days. Went from NYC to rural NY where I grow veggies and dahlias & live with rescue cats & poms
My throwback sized rescue poms Merlin (black) and Hazel (tan) lounging on a grey couch with white pillows with colorful Persian Heriz rug. Car selfie of me, Layla - human with big dark eyes and with long brown hair. I am wearing all black as NYers often do, with glasses and tweed baseball hat Picking chamomile from my garden to dry for tea, there is a two tone basket partially full of picked flowers and a bushy plant full of white chamomile blooms Fuchsia Peony blooms with driveway and more peonies and a split rail fence we have been building this spring in the background

Weird how the US is such a free country that we only have 4% of the world's population and yet we need three of the ten highest funded militaries on the planet.

(Yes, US municipal police and ICE both have budgets that rank in the top ten of the world's militaries.)

Other fellowship mentors include CNN’s Van Jones, who recently issued an apology after comments he made making light of images of dead Palestinian children and saying they were part of an Iran and Qatar disinformation campaign; and Michael Powell, a staff writer at the Atlantic...
Legacy Journalists from NYT, CNN Are Mentors in a Fellowship Founded for Pro-Israel “Information War”
Hardline Israel advocate Jacki Karsh says she founded the new journalism fellowship to help “shift some of the narrative” in Israel’s favor.

Interesting niche of people (and it is a niche, even on here) who very clearly desperately hope the ceasefire plan to end the war fails not because it's bad on the merits (it is) but because it would undermine their "hope Dearborn is happy" schtick if it succeeded

Apropos absolutely nothing else there is still a rather rude awakening which is yet to come for those in the Democratic Party and in the camp of liberalism writ large if they think Israel's public image is at all recoverable among young and nonwhite voters and apparatchiks.

Agreed, and I understand the nuance of how orientalism both downplays their agency and seeks to co-opt movements framing them as victims for the western benefit.
lingerielayla.bsky.social
Yeah it never benefitted them strategically, the optics of enforcement were always bad when the reality was that women exercised power and roles in government, media, and as doctors and firefighters. And it’s upsetting how the wlf movement got hijacked by foaming at the mouth zios
lingerielayla.bsky.social
Yeah none of the news coming out feels reliable… I will say even here in the US we have insanely antiquated laws that just stop being enforced but are never repealed so I am cautiously hopeful that’s what this is.
lingerielayla.bsky.social
Yeah the deal is really problematic in so many ways.
lingerielayla.bsky.social
Is it overly optimistic to think this ceasefire could be more than a pause? Maybe… but I will believe it’s real when in addition to aid, outside reporters are allowed into Gaza. It really feels like that is what they have been avoiding since forever with the blockade & targeting inside journalists.
lingerielayla.bsky.social
I’m seeing mixed comments as well, but keep in mind iof has an entire Persian language arm for a reason. On that channel and several street bloggers I follow in Tehran all show it’s not being enforced - at least in the city. I’m sure this will take longer to reach other regions.
lingerielayla.bsky.social
Iran is a diverse country despite the Islamic Republic moniker there are longstanding significant Christian & Jewish populations. Watch & you’ll see it has already led to emboldened wearing of tank tops w/cleavage. unsurprisingly since this doesn’t fit the narrative it hasn’t gotten news coverage
lingerielayla.bsky.social
And for anyone that doesn’t believe this kind of news until seeing it - here is an entire channel of recent videos taken by someone walking through Tehran and over 50% of women are not wearing a scarf. youtube.com/@tehranwander

If the West now has one less reason to manufacture consent for war after what happened earlier this year, that’s a good thing. It’s going to be interesting to see if this conflict reignites with a pushing of the envelope and if this change will impact more than just hair but overall style of dress.
lingerielayla.bsky.social
Been seeing news that compulsory hijab in Iran is no longer a thing, if you follow anyone there on social media you already know that it was not being enforced for a while now. If true it takes out the arguments of gender apartheid. Iranian women are in all the highest fields & college educated.

They deserve every moment of relief this gives them, and we can all enjoy it with them knowing what we know about the occupation. The GSF (global sumud flotilla) and the strikes and protests and boycotting have all made this possible. We must be ready to do more if this falls through. Free Palestine

Here is Jamal from Gaza whose family lost everything and he is trying with all his might to rebuild their lives and help them with the crazy costs in Gaza and travel outside Gaza when the crossings open. I hope you support us. Your little support, even if it is $5

I want to add that if you see Palestinians celebrating at the end of the genocide online, please don’t argue and say things like “do you trust Israel?” They’re actually the ones living through this. We’re guests in their fight for liberation. Let them have a slither of hope, even if uncertain.

Don't tell Palestinians not to have hope or that the ceasefire deal is doomed.

They know what Trump is. They know what the Occupation is. They live under Occupation every day. We're not doing them any favors telling them what they already know.

Let them have hope. We all need it. So do they.
lingerielayla.bsky.social
Exactly! of course they don’t trust but celebrating small wins is so important for their emotional and psychological survival

Autumn in the Hudson Valley… is pretty incredible. The sunlight is like a kaleidoscope through the trees. Everything is turning early bc of drought. Unfortunately we’ve only had less than an inch of rain in a few months…

I send you my heartfelt gratitude despite the pain we endure

After a long journey of suffering we were finally able to rent a simple place to shelter us and protect us from the cold and harshness of the open air

we still desperately need your support🙏🏼

That’s the concern I think all of us rightly have, but once they are out they won’t get to wear those yellow ribbons or have that as an excuse anymore

Thank you! It’s a labor of love bc they have such a short season here, about 1.5-2 months of blooms each year. I’ll be digging them the moment frost gets them, wish I was in a zone where they could survive in the ground!
